Venerable Leeds-based label Dance to the Radio released the eponymous debut album from Grammatics last Monday. Love them or hate them -- and I definitely started out as the latter -- the band is definitely onto something good. Their early singles hinted at a band that loved Cursive just as much as Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, and on their debut album they've perfected that sound.

The band is currently on the road promoting their debut LP with fellow West Yorkshire mates Rolo Tomassi and Pulled Apart By Horses, which is sure to be one hell of a show, both on and off-stage. They will also be supporting Bloc Party this October.

I think this video might be OLD NEWS by now, but it's new to me! I did not like these guys at first, but the more I hear from them, the more I think they are getting way, way better. This is their latest single, which is on Dance to the Radio.

Things have been quiet around here, but there is good reason for that. I was off running around England for ten days, and when I got back on Sunday (both my birthday and the third anniversary of the site), I was too tired to update. Yesterday, although I was back up to speed, I was too busy at work, and really, things are quite busy today, so that's why I am leaving you with this video, off of the The Pigeon Detectives' new record, Emergency, which will be out on May 26th in the UK.

"D.I.L.E.M.M.A.," the new single from Leeds-based Grammatics is out April 14th through Dance to the Radio, but what should you care?

Honestly, I didn't like them the first time I heard them. Or even the second. But finally one of their songs stood out and I got it -- I don't even remember which song it was, but it was that day that everything fell into place with these guys. The band is obviously influenced by Cursive, but missing is the angst, and it's replaced with some of the most epic and creative tunes that has come out of England in some time. The best bands are those that you don't get at first, and these guys are ambitious enough to throw you for a loop or two.
